Illustrations by E.H Shepard

Image
I've continued to research how illustrators have previously portrayed this book by looking at illustrations by E.H Shepard.  I like his illustrations because they've all been created traditionally. I believe that traditional methods have added lighting and detail to both characters and the environments. I think that these illustrations are successful because E.H Shepard has shown how setting the scene and focusing on the environments is just as important as the characters. Based on the aspects of tone, lighting and line work, I can now begin the think about these elements for my own illustrations. Also, this research is now going to help me to think about focusing on scenery illustrations.

Mood board

Image
To continue my research, I wanted to create some mood boards so that I can start to think about colour schemes and which colours would work best for my own work.  For the images, I decided to pick pictures of the countryside because that is the environment within the book.  I think that for the next parts of my research, I show look into how the countryside looks within different seasons because the colour scheme will change.

Inspiration: David Roberts

After producing multiple visual illustrations, I've now started to research other illustrators who have created illustrations for this book.  The illustrations that I've began to look at are by David Roberts. I like how his characters and landscapes have a cartoon style, which is quite opposite to Ernest H. Shepards illustrations. Also, I like his work because he's applied the uses of pattern.
